Description
Looking for a showy speciman tree? Look no further, because of its’ seasonal beauty, compact size and adaptability to a variety of soils, this shrub is a great choice for any yard. A compact shrub valued for its’ stunning, fragrant, rosy pink flowers in early spring – very similar to a double flowering plum. Finely textured, green foliage that turns yellow-orange in fall. Small, hairy, nut-like ornamental fruit in fall attracts wildlife. Excellent as a specimen or in a large group. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil. Height: 1.8 m (6ft) x 1.5 m (5 ft) and does sucker.
Like commercial almonds, Russian Almond is not an actual nut but a drupe – a shelled pit surrounded by an outer green flesh. Both fruit and seeds are edible, though, they are best planted as an accent plant as pits are small & bitter.
