APRICOT TREE PLANTING & CARE
Looking to grow beautiful, healthy apricot trees in your garden? You've come to the right place! This comprehensive growing guide will walk you through everything you need to know, from planting to harvest.
QUICK FACTS
- Plant in a location with good air circulation
- Water deeply but infrequently once established
- Prune annually for best production
PLANTING
Choose a well-drained soil, as Manchurian tree roots are sensitive to excess moisture and can die in soggy conditions. Select a sheltered location away from harsh winter winds to ensure healthy growth. Since Manchurian trees are grown on their own roots, multiple trees can be planted within the same yard or up to 100 yards apart, as they will still effectively pollinate each other at this distance.
GROWTH HABIT
Manchurian trees have an open, spreading growth habit with multiple stems. They should be handled and pruned in the same way as apple trees to encourage healthy structure and fruit production.
WINTER PROTECTION
Young trees should be wrapped in winter to protect the bark from potential damage caused by mice and rabbits. Use tree guards or protective wrap to prevent gnawing and ensure the tree’s health through the colder months.
MATURE HEIGHT
When fully grown, Manchurian trees can reach a height of approximately 12ft., making them a manageable and attractive addition to your landscape. FOR MORE TIPS ON CARE, PRUNING AND FERTILIZING, REFER TO: SHRUBS, TREES & FRUIT TREES
