SASKATOON PLANTING & CARE

Looking to grow beautiful, healthy saskatoon berries in your garden? You've come to the right place! This comprehensive growing guide will walk you through everything you need to know, from planting to harvest.

PLANTING

Spacing: Plant at least 2ft. apart to allow for proper growth.
Root System: Saskatoons grow on their own root stock, so any shoots from the base can be left to grow.
Soil Considerations: Avoid deep cultivation around the plants, as their roots are shallow and can be easily disturbed.

PRUNING

When to Prune: In early spring while the plants are still dormant.
How to Prune: Shape the plant as desired, removing dead or weak branches while maintaining an open structure for good air circulation.

WATERING

First Year: Keep plants well-watered to help establish strong roots.
Growth Expectation: Saskatoons are slow starters, so don’t expect significant growth in the first year.
Seedling Plugs: If using seedling plugs (item # 8065), do not soak them before planting.
