POTATO FERTILIZING OVERVIEW

Fertilizing for early-, midseason-, and late-season potatoes begins at planting and continues through tuber bulking. Cut large seed potatoes into pieces, ensuring each piece has at least two eyes. Plant 6–8 in. deep, spacing 18–24 in. apart, with rows 36–38 in. apart. Water regularly and follow the fertilizing schedule below.

AT PLANTING

Add ½–1 cup of the mixed fertilizer directly into the planting hole. Place the seed potato on top of the mixture, then cover with soil.

  • Organican 2-5-2: 1 oz / 30 ml
  • Eagle Starter 10-52-17: 1 oz / 30 g
  • Water: 4.5 L

3 WEEKS AFTER EMERGENCE

Apply once sufficient growth has developed. Reapply every 7 days until the next growth stage.

  • Organican 2-5-2: 1 oz / 30 ml
  • Eagle Starter 10-52-17: 1 oz / 30 g
  • Water: 4.5 L

5 WEEKS AFTER EMERGENCE

Spray directly onto leaves, allowing excess to run off. This is when you will hill potatoes. Repeat application three times at 7-day intervals. Claybuster may be added if soil is compacted.

  • Eagle Starter 15-15-30: 1 oz / 30 g
  • Organican 2-5-2: 1 oz / 30 ml
  • Wetting Agent: 15 ml
  • Water: 4.5 L

WHEN BUDS FORM (BEFORE FLOWERING)

Spray directly onto foliage. Repeat three times at 7-day intervals. Switching back to 10-52-17 supports flower setting.

  • Eagle Starter 10-52-17: 1 oz / 30 g
  • Organican 2-5-2: 1 oz / 30 ml
  • Wetting Agent: 15 ml
  • Water: 4.5 L

TUBER INITIATION & BULKING

Apply directly to the canopy and repeat every 7–10 days during the bulking period.

  • Eagle Starter 15-15-30: 1 oz / 30 g
  • Organican 2-5-2: 1 oz / 30 ml
  • Wetting Agent: 15 ml
  • Water: 4.5 L

TLUDA

Potatoes grow in three stages—Baby, Teen, and Adult—each requiring different fertilization.

NOTES

When plants reach 6–8 in. tall, begin hilling by gently mounding soil from the row center around the stems, leaving only the top few leaves exposed. Repeat two weeks later when plants grow another 6–8 in. If soil is too dense for hilling, use Clay Buster (#3274) to improve texture.
