PLANTING

Daylilies thrive in moist, rich soil with plenty of humus but can adapt to various soil types.

Depth: Cover roots with 1-1.5 in. of soil.

Spacing: Plant at least 18 in. apart to allow more space for larger mature plants.

Sun requirements: Grow best in full sun to semi-shade. They tolerate deep shade, but flower production will be reduced.

TIMING

Best planted in spring or early fall to allow strong root establishment before extreme temperatures.

SOIL & WATERING

Soil type: Moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil.

Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, but daylilies are quite drought-tolerant once established.

Mulching: Apply mulch in summer to conserve moisture, but avoid excessive depth as roots grow close to the surface.

FERTILIZING

Apply a balanced organic fertilizer in early spring and again after flowering to encourage continuous blooming and health foliage.
