PEONY PLANTING & CARE

Peonies are hardy, long-lived perennials that thrive in full sun and well-drained soil. With their large, lush blooms, peonies make a stunning addition to any garden and require minimal maintenance once established.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil
  • Plant roots so the top is covered with no more than 2 in. of soil
  • Water generously for the first month to help plants establish
  • Space plants 3–4 ft. apart to allow for proper air circulation

CARE TIPS

Watering & Mulching: Keep soil moist but not soggy. A light layer of mulch in early spring helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Support: Large blooms may require staking to prevent stems from bending or breaking.

Winter Protection: Peonies benefit from natural snow cover, which provides insulation during winter months.

PRUNING FOR HEALTHY GROWTH

Spring: Cut back any remaining dead foliage to ground level before new shoots emerge.

Fall: After the first frost, remove and discard old stems to help prevent disease.
