QUICK FACTS

  • Plant in a location with good air circulation
  • Water deeply but infrequently once established
  • Prune annually for best production

POPLAR TREES

This includes: Green Giant (item #8375), Prairie Sky, Paskapoo (item #8395) & Okanese.

PLANTING & SPACING

These fast-growing trees are very large at maturity (40-60ft.).

SPACING

Green Giant & Okanese Poplar: Space 15-25ft. apart. Prairie Sky & Paskapoo Poplar: Space 10-20ft. apart.

FOR WINDBREAKS

Staggered rows provide the best results. Space rows 20ft. apart for an effective wind barrier.

WATERING & CARE

At planting: Ensure a heavy soaking at the time of planting. First season: Continue weekly waterings until leaves start to change colour (senescence).

FERTILIZING

Second year: Use a 20-20-20 water-soluble fertilizer or a slow-release granular tree & shrub fertilizer as per product instructions.

WINDBREAK MAINTENANCE

For the most effective wind screen, leave branching all the way to the ground rather than pruning lower branches.
