Prairie Pear Collection
This collection pollinates itself. Four Prairie-tough trees - three pears and a plum - selected so the Russian Beauty Pear does double duty as the named pollinator for Golden Pear, while staggered ripening stretches your harvest from mid-August all the way into September.
What's inside:
- 8044A - Beedle Pear Tree - 1 Tree
- 8045A - Golden Pear Tree - 1 Tree
- 8023A - Pembina Plum - 1 Tree
- 8055A - Russian Beauty Pear (Krazulya) - 1 Tree
The pollination story is built right into the collection: Golden Pear requires a second variety to set fruit, and its own description names Russian Beauty (Krazulya) as the match - both trees are here. Russian Beauty opens the season in mid to late August with buttery, aromatic fruit best enjoyed fresh or canned quickly. Golden Pear follows roughly two weeks later with consistent golden fruit on a fireblight-resistant, 15 ft. tree. Beedle Pear closes out the pear season in early September - zone 2 hardy on Siberian rootstock, soft and sweet with storage-quality fruit. Pembina Plum rounds out the collection with freestone, red-skinned fruit at ~15 ft., a Prairie staple suited to fresh eating, baking, and preserves. All four trees are hardy selections proven for cold Prairie climates.
