Huge, uniformly round, purple-top Turnip has mild flavor and no coarse fiber. Use the tasty leaf green tops, too. They make a tangy boiling green. Hybrid.
Sow turnip seed as early as soil can be worked in the spring. Seed 1 cm (1/2 in) deep, 2 or 3 seeds per 2 cm (1 in) of row. Space the rows 45 cm (18 in) apart. Once plants reach 5 cm (2 in) high thin to 10 cm (4 in) apart. Harvest roots after the first heavy frost, frost improves the flavor of turnips. Store at approximately 5 C (40 F) in open bins. Fertilize with 10-52-17 and liquid seaweed for strong healthy roots.
