Prairie Windbreak Collection
Three tiers of windbreak protection, built for the Prairie. This collection pairs two towering evergreen conifers with a fast-growing mid-height screen and a fruiting understory tree - a layered system designed to block wind, build structure, and deliver year-round performance from Zone 1 outward.
What's inside:
- 8425A - Black Hills Spruce - 3 Trees
- 8411A - Common Caragana - 10 Trees
- 8420A - Tree Colorado Spruce - 3 Trees
- 8066A - Chokecherry Robert - 2 Trees
Plant this collection and you get a genuine three-tier windbreak: Black Hills Spruce tops out near 60ft and is rated hardy to Zone 1, making it the backbone of any Prairie shelterbelt. Colorado Spruce adds a second tall column with drought-resistant roots and colour that ranges from silvery green to deep blue. At mid-height, ten Common Caragana fill the critical 18ft zone where wind most often enters at ground level - fast-growing and heat tolerant, they close the gap quickly and hold it year after year. Chokecherry Robert anchors the front row at 10ft, contributing rich red foliage, heavy fruit crops for wildlife and the kitchen, and a tough Prairie constitution developed right in Barrhead, Alberta. Together these 18 plants cover upper canopy, mid screen, and understory in a single order - suited to acreages, farmsteads, and large rural landscapes across the Canadian Prairies.
