Elderberry 'Johns' is a very vigorous elderberry with dark green leaves and large clusters of fragrant white flowers. Berries and clusters are even larger than 'Adams'.
It ripens about 10 days earlier than 'Adams', which helps in shorter seasons. Use the berries for jams, jellies, syrups and juice; cook before eating. Plant with 'Adams' or another variety for best pollination.
It can grow 5 feet in one season and makes a fast screen or hedge. In cold winters it may die back to the snowline and regrow in spring. Grow in full sun to part sun.
