This tier covers the tough, cold-hardy planting stock that goes in the ground first each spring. These are the crops and bulbs that want cool soil and an early start, so they are the first thing we pull from the cooler and pack once the ground begins to thaw in your area.

You will find seed potatoes here, along with onion sets, shallots, multiplier onions and spring garlic. It also covers the hardy roots like horseradish and Jerusalem artichoke, plus the summer-flowering bulbs that are planted on the same early schedule: gladiolus, dahlias and calla lilies.

We expect that all orders for potatoes, onions and hardy roots will ship by March at the latest, weather permitting. Orders are released zone by zone so your parcel arrives close to your local planting window. If your order also includes items from other tiers, such as trees and shrubs, we will hold these items and send everything together in one shipment once the later items are ready to travel, to reduce your shipping costs.
