A beautiful and rewarding fig variety to grow at home! While the Chicago Fig is not winter-hardy below Zone 5, it thrives when grown in a pot and brought indoors during the winter months—making it an excellent choice for Prairie gardeners who love unique fruit.
This medium-sized tree produces golf-ball-sized figs with a sweet, rich flavour and a tender, peelable skin. The fruit ripens in late summer to early fall, giving you a delicious harvest right from your patio, deck, or sunroom. Originating from Sicily, this high-yielding, easy-to-grow fig is also known as Bensonhurst Purple.
Chicago Fig trees are valued not only for their fruit but also for their attractive form and lush foliage, making them a standout ornamental plant.
