Northland is a half-high blueberry from Michigan State University, bred for northern Michigan. The bush is vigorous and moderately spreading, with consistent yields of 15 to 20 lb per plant.
Small, dark blue berries with a wild-berry flavour form in long, loose clusters and ripen in early July. They're moderately firm if picked soon after ripening.
Its limber branches don't break under heavy snow, and it's very ornamental: dark green summer leaves, orange-red fall colour and yellow winter branches. Plant in full sun in well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.0-5.5). Mulch with pine needles or bark to keep roots cool and moist.
