Brunnera macrophylla 'Variegata' is a shade-loving perennial grown for its striking foliage. Bold, irregular, creamy white margins edge each leaf, and some leaves come up almost entirely white. Plant it where you need light in a dark corner. It glows in the shade.
From mid to late spring, clusters of tiny baby blue flowers float above the leaves. Brunnera is a classic, low-maintenance perennial that makes a lovely groundcover under trees and along shady paths. Variegated forms spread more slowly than the species, so give it time to fill in.
It also grows well in containers. Keep a pot near the door and snip a few blooms for a spring bouquet.
