Elderberry 'Adams' is a classic North American elderberry selected in New York. Large, flat clusters of fragrant white flowers in early summer are followed by dark purple berries in clusters up to 6" across.
Berries ripen late in the season and are used for jams, jellies, syrups and juice. Cook berries before eating. For the best crop, plant it with a second variety such as 'Johns'.
In short Prairie seasons it may die back to the snowline and regrow each spring, and fruit may not ripen in cooler years. It still makes a fast-growing hedge and wildlife plant. Grow in full sun to part sun; it tolerates wet soil.
