seemed well at first but quickly disappeared. Dead or dormant?

Thank you for sharing your feedback on your Hosta. We’re sorry to hear it appeared to decline shortly after planting.

Hostas can sometimes appear to disappear after planting, especially during their first season, as they focus on establishing their root system. If the foliage dies back soon after planting, it does not always mean the plant is dead — it may be going dormant due to transplant stress, heat, moisture fluctuations, or other environmental factors.

With proper care, many Hostas will return the following spring. We appreciate you sharing your experience and hope it has a chance to re-emerge and become established.

I potted these up after receiving them. All grew very well and are waiting to be transplanted to their permanent spot in the garden.

Ask me next year to review! It transplanted well and appears to be rooting.
