Cymbopogon citratus

Lemongrass is a fragrant herb renowned for its culinary versatility, offering a delightful lemony flavour that shines in dishes ranging from pasta to sauces and fresh salads. This robust plant thrives in warm climates and is perfect for slow-cooked dishes, as its aromatic qualities only intensify with cooking. Not only is it valued in the kitchen, but lemongrass also serves a dual purpose in the garden by repelling a variety of pests with its strong scent.

Size: Mature plants can reach heights of approximately 36 to 48 in., with a bushy formation that enhances garden borders.

Yield: Harvest young leaves continuously; regular trimming encourages dense growth and extended harvests.

Taste: A refreshing crispness with a distinctly citrusy profile, excellent in teas and infusions.

How to use: Ideal for infusing in soups, teas, and stocks, as well as a key ingredient in various Asian cuisine. Also serves as a natural insect repellent.

Planting tips: Start seeds indoors in mid to late March, keeping seedlings trimmed to 4 in. before transplanting to rows spaced 18 in. apart, with plant spacing of 6 in. apart once soil has warmed in spring. Fertilize with organic options like 10-52-17 and Liquid Seaweed for robust growth.

Harvest tips: Cut leaves from the base as needed while ensuring to leave enough foliage for the plant to regrow. Regular harvesting promotes a fuller plant.

Pelleted seed.

Planted these 3 times in hopes of something sprouting. Absolutely none of them sprouted. I planted probably 40 seeds with hopes of sprouts.

Hi Danielle, we're sorry to hear your seeds didn't sprout. We understand how disappointing that can be, and we appreciate your effort. Wishing you better luck with your gardening in the future!
