Origanum vulgare

A classic culinary herb with aromatic green leaves that develop a robust, savoury flavour when dried. Widely used in Italian cooking, oregano enhances egg dishes, soups, sauces, pork, stews, and many savoury recipes. Plants are easy to grow and provide a steady supply of flavourful foliage throughout the season.

Size: Plants reach approximately 12 to 24 in. tall with a spread of 12 to 18 in.

Yield: Provides a steady supply of flavourful leaves throughout the growing season; can be harvested as needed.

Taste: Robust, savoury flavor with a strong aroma that intensifies when dried.

How to use: Excellent for enhancing flavour in Italian dishes, soups, sauces, and roasted meats.

Planting tips: Ideal for herb gardens, containers, raised beds, and garden borders in full sun with well-drained soil. Most herbs prefer a sunny location with well-drained soil that is not too wet. Aim to plant where herbs receive at least 5 hours of direct sunlight each day. Herbs grow well in most soils but thrive in light, sandy soil enriched with peat moss or leaf mould and a moderate amount of fertiliser.

Harvest tips: Harvest leaves throughout the growing season, removing sprigs as needed to encourage bushy growth and continuous production.
