Pepper Mad Hatter (68 Days)

Pepper Mad Hatter (68 Days) - 1705A

1,000-2,000 Scoville Units

An exotic and truly show-stopping pepper, Mad Hatter wins on uniqueness alone! The charming flat-disc fruit is crunchy, crisp, and lightly floral, with a rich flavour that intensifies and sweetens as it matures. In hot, dry climates, a slight touch of heat may develop near the seed cavity, but the signature “wings” of the pepper always stay sweet and mild.

This variety performs best in the ground with support, producing an exceptionally abundant harvest. Enjoy these fun-shaped peppers raw in salads, pickled, or stuffed with cheese—they’re versatile, delicious, and sure to become a new favourite in your garden and kitchen.

A playful, productive pepper with outstanding flavour and unbeatable visual appeal.

Planting Instructions
Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting out to the garden. Cover seeds with 1/4 in. of soil. Firm soil over seed. Keep moist but not waterlogged. To germinate maintain a soil temperature of 22°C. Seed should germinate in 10-14 days. Once seeds have sprouted, 14-16 hours of light per day is essential. Once plants have reached 5 in. transplant to 3 in. peat pots. Plants will develop better with a growing temperature of 17°C until transplanting out.

Pro Tip: Fertilize weekly with Liquid Seaweed Fertilizer for strong root development. Do not transplant out till night temperatures are warm.

average to below average germination. Started in a greenhouse indoors

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Mad Hatter Pepper. We’re sorry to hear the germination was only average to below average, especially since the seeds were started indoors in a greenhouse.

Pepper seeds can sometimes be slower or more inconsistent to germinate due to factors such as soil temperature, moisture levels, planting depth, seed-starting mix conditions, or fluctuations in growing conditions. Peppers generally prefer warm soil (around 24–29°C / 75–85°F) to encourage strong germination, and even small changes in conditions can affect results.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and will continue to monitor feedback on this variety.
