Raphanus sativus

Most radishes get bitter and brittle from the hot summer but Rover keeps its cool! This extra early variety holds well in the field and has less of a tendency to produce oval radishes under heat stress than others. The smooth, dark-red roots are extremely uniform and attractive, with a crisp, white flesh that delights the palate. With its rich flavour accompanied by a refreshing nip, Rover is an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy radishes fresh from the garden.

Size: Mature roots typically reach about 1 to 2 in. in diameter, maintaining a uniform shape and appealing colour.

Yield: A reliable producer, yielding several radishes per sowing, perfect for repeated harvests.

Taste: Crisp and crunchy with a mildly spicy flavour that refreshes the taste buds.

How to use: Excellent for fresh salads, garnishes, and as a crunchy addition to sandwiches. They can also be fermented or pickled for a unique flavour boost.

Planting tips: Sow seeds 1 cm deep and 1 cm apart, in rows spaced 45 cm apart, in well-drained, organic-rich soil. They thrive in cooler weather; for a continuous harvest, plant at 1-week intervals.

Harvest tips: Harvest when roots are approximately 1 to 2 in. in diameter; this size ensures the best flavour and texture. Regular picking encourages new growth throughout the season.

Pelleted seed.
