Delicata JS is Johnny's strain of the classic delicata winter squash. Oblong fruit, 7 to 9 in. long, is cream with dark green stripes. Each vine produces 5 to 7 squash.
The flesh is very sweet and the skin is thin and tender enough to eat, so there's no peeling. Slice and roast, or stuff and bake. Squash keep for about 3 months in a cool, dry spot and need no curing.
Start indoors in early May or direct sow into warm soil after frost. Give the vines room to run, spacing 3 to 4ft. apart in full sun.
