Bare-root rootstock is shipped while it is dormant, so it often arrives as a leafless stem with a healthy root system. Although it may not look like much, this is completely normal and is actually the safest way to ship these plants, helping reduce transplant stress and allowing them to establish more successfully once planted.

The health of a bare-root plant is determined by its roots rather than its stem. As long as the roots are firm and healthy, the plant is alive and should begin breaking dormancy as soil temperatures warm. Depending on the variety and growing conditions, this can take several weeks.
