Horseradish

Horseradish

A long, tapering root used as a condiment in the kitchens. The root has a strong, hot, and sharp flavor, which can be only be described after experiencing its unique taste! The roots are harvested in late fall and then peeled and ground before being enjoyed as a peppery condiment.

Horseradish can be invasive so you may want to isolate it in your garden.

Planting Instructions
Horseradish thrives in full sun but tolerates light shade. As for soil, horseradish can take almost anything but consistently waterlogged conditions. Site your horseradish in an out-of-the way spot because you won't want to move this perennial once it is planted. Loosen the soil to 12 in. deep and add a shovelful of compost. Plant the root cutting at a 45° angle, with the top of the cutting 2 in. below the soil line. One plant is usually plenty for a family. If you love horseradish so much that you need more than one plant, space them 30 in. apart. To keep the plant from looking ratty, water it once a week during dry spells and use a couple of inches of mulch around the plant to help conserve moisture.`

I received dead sticks. They never broke the dormancy.

Hi Natacha, thank you for letting us know — we're truly sorry the plants didn't break dormancy for you. Bare-root stock can look like dead sticks on arrival, which is completely normal, but they absolutely should leaf out given the right conditions.

We'd love to look into this for you — Please reach out to us directly via phone or email and we'll make it right.

The roots seemed to have started sprouting and dried before we received them.
They did nothing in the ground

We're sorry to hear that your horseradish roots did not establish as expected.

Horseradish roots can sometimes appear dry after shipping, but this is normal for dormant rootstock and does not necessarily indicate that they are no longer viable. Once planted, they often require several weeks of consistent moisture before new growth appears.

If your horseradish never sprouted, please contact our Customer Service team at garden@ttseeds.com with your order number, planting date, and photos (if available). We'll be happy to review your concern in accordance with our warranty policy.
