They are related to both blueberries and cranberries and have a tangy-tart taste, and have been used for centuries both as food and as medicine. The berries can be eaten raw or can be processed into jam, juice or syrup. Lingonberries contain extremely high amounts of quercetin, a flavonoid with strong anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as a natural remedy for the pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
