A popular favorite as well as a winner in trial gardens across the country. Also the AAS winner that made one of the judges exclaim, “I would love to have this in my yard!” A truly beautiful and exceptional marigold with richly coloured burgundy and gold blooms on a compact 25-30 cm (10-12 in) plant. Super-easy to grow and a tireless bloomer!
Seed directly into the garden after the soil has warmed in the spring. For earlier blooms start seed 4 weeks in advance of intended date for moving plants to the garden. Press seed into soil, do not cover. Germinates best at 22 C (74 F) usually in 7-10 days. Reduce growing temperature to 18 C (65 F). Fertilize every 2 weeks with 10-52-17 and liquid seaweed for strong healthy plants. Garden spacing 25 cm (10in) apart.
Marigold companion planting enhances the growth of basil, cucumbers, eggplant, gourds, kale, potatoes, squash and tomatoes. Marigold also makes a good companion plant to melons because it deters beetles.
