Description

Vaccinium vitis-idaea Red Sunset – They are small, red, edible berries that grow on a perennial, woody, evergreen shrub with a low growth habit. They are related to both blueberries and cranberries and have a tangy-tart taste, and have been used for centuries both as food and as medicine. Berries can be eaten raw or can be processed into jam, juice or syrup. Contain an extremely high amounts of quercetin, a flavonoid with strong anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as a natural remedy for the pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Two or more cultivars are recommended for optimum pollination. Red Sunset is a medium-to-large firm berries. Bright red glossy fruits are tart until ripe, then has excellent flavour, richer and less astringent than cranberries. Considered one of the most vigorous cultivars of lingonberries. Mature ht 30 cm (12 in) tall.
